ONE OUNCE GOLD NUGGET

SPEND MORE TIME FINDING GOLD AND LESS TIME DIGGING!!!

Many new Prospectors and even old seasoned Detectorists waste a lot of time digging holes without running through a few basic techniques that can save time and energy. You receive a signal in the ground and you start digging right? Wrong. I first kick the top soil to eliminate the possibility of a tiny rusted piece of metal. A Minelab Eureka Gold will discriminate but not until you get within approximately 3 or 4 inches of the target. If you own an Explorer SE series Detector a rusty nail that has a rusty halo around it and buried several inches deep will mimic the ferrous and conductive properties of of a Meteorite until you get close enough for the discriminator to take over.

The best advice I ever learned was to re-ground-balance my detector after getting a target response a few feet off to the side of the target. 50% of the time the ground mineralization changes and gives a false mineral signal. With a VLF machine this is especially common in damp or wet ground so RE BALANCE YOUR DETECTOR IN THE TRACKING MODE.

You are digging the hole and it gets close to a foot deep and you do not have a pin pointer probe? You are using an Elliptical DD Coil? Flip the search coil parallel with the shaft and use the tip of the coil as a pin pointer to locate the target inside the hole. Very simple with the Elliptical coil on the Minelab Eureka Gold. Use that straight line of active power and use one inch of the front end. Also works great as a top soil pin pointer but then remember to kick the soil with your boot first to eliminate microscopic pieces of metallic trash or non ferrous bullet fragments!

Last but not least, set yourself up a test garden with several different types of metals buried at varied depths so that you can become familiar with the response your machine receives from a variety of different conductive materials. Like any machine you just do not turn it on and become an expert. Try riding a Harley Davidson or flying a Helicopter. Like all other hobbies each requires dedication and practice. You absolutely have to become familiar with your equipment!

If you read all this and have any suggestions or comments please do not hesitate to pop me an email. I learn a lot from my customers and my Guru's/Mentors at Minelab USA in Las Vegas! Drop me an email with your tips and tricks!
